biography


Joy Kammin was born in 1994 in Wuppertal, Germany.

She received her pre-education in dance from 2008-2009 at Rheinische Musikschule Köln.
From 2009-2012 Joy received her general education with dance as major field of study at the Gymnasium Essen-Werden. During that time she had already the chance to work with choreographers as for instance Claude Galotta and Ed Wubbe and perform Choreographies in different countries as France, Poland, Norway and Israel.
In 2011 Joy was selected to represent Germany at the Eurovision Young Dancers contest with a solo choreographed by Erika Winkler.

From 2012 - 2016 Joy attended Codarts, university for the arts in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and got her Bachelor degree as a dancer. At Codarts she received a variety of technical training and the chance to work with choreographers as Jiri Kylian, Marina Mascarell, Jan Martens und Felix Landerer. She was chosen to perform their works during the TOTM tour in The Netherlands, Germany and Italy. Joy attended several workshops as a week of master classes with Vertigo Dance Company in Israel, a summer intensive Gaga and Batsheva repertoire with Yaniv Abraham, workshops based on Sidi Larbi Cherkaouis repertoire and she attended the Deltebre Danza summer intensieve in Spain.

In 2015-2016 Joy did her internship with the choreographer Krisztina de Chatel and performed her choreographies “Walz” and “Infinite” in the dutch tour. She also danced with Skanes Dansteater in Malmö, Sweden as trainee and performed the choreographic work of the choreographer Marina Mascarell.

In 2016 Joy had a guest contract with the theater in Nordhausen, Germany, where she was part of the creation “Die Tänzerin von Auschwitz”, a Tanzfonds Erbe project. The artists found together the GbR ensemble art&fakt and are now independently selling and performing the piece in Germany. In 2016 Joy Kammin was chosen to present her solo choreography Da Capo, one body two minds as an upcoming choreographer at the third FLUX festival, PLATFORM FOR DANCE in Rotterdam.She was also selected to partissipate at the SOLOCOREOGRAFICO in Torino and won the PIEMONTE DAL VIVO FOUNDATION AWARD  by the very secret dance society under Raffaele Irace.

In spring 2017 Joy Kammin was part of the creation of the piece as I collapse under the direction of the danish choreographer Tina Tarpgaard. In 2017 Joy started working with the Israeli choreographers Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak in Tel Aviv. 

In 2018 she was a part of the creation of FUGUE by Inbal Pinto.

Through 2019 Joy Worked with Avshalom Pollak dance theater on different creations such as KRUMP and ANTU.

In 2020 Joy initiated the tanzt.jetzt Festival - a collaborative dance project in her hometown Remscheid, Funded by the Bergische Kulturfonds. She was in charge of organization, artistic guidance, teaching and choreography. (Further information www.tanzt.jetzt)

In 2020-2021 Joy created a new dance theater piece  “Auf der Reise von meinem Zimmer zur Lagune traf ich ein Nilpferd” for two performers. (Gefördert durch ein Künstlerstipendium im Rahmen der NRW-Corona-Hilfen und mit freundlicher Unterstützung des Teo Otto Theaters der Stadt Remscheid). The Piece was performed in July 2021 at Sommer Werft Festival Frankfurt and in September 2021 in Gallus Theater, as Part of the third Zukunft Tanzt Festival.

In 2021 Joy was part of the creation VENEDIG VENEDIG under the direction of the Hungarian choreographer Kristof Szabo in Cologne.
2021 Joy launched the second edition of the tanzt.jetzt Festival in her hometown Remscheid.  Realizing her artistic vision and aiming to bring the art of contemporary dance theater closer to the people of Remscheid.
Joy also partissipated in projects and collaborated with artists and institutions such as for the Luftraumportal by the Wuppertaler artist Gregor Eisenmann and worked with the Cologne based choreographer Alejandra Jara. She performed together with tanz-station Barmen and she created for and was in charge of the contemporary dance performances of Bramissimo, a Straßen Festival by Barmen Urban in Wuppertal.
In 2021 Joy also worked at the Luzerner Tanztheater in Switzerland as choreographic assistant to Inbal Pinto.

In 2022 Joy Worked in many different freelance Projects by choreographers such as Gil Kerer, Anat OZ, GEM Company, Julia Rierer, Inbal Pinto.
Joy initiated for the third time the tanzt.jetzt Festival supported by the city of Remscheid, the Ministry of Culture and Science of NRW, Landesbüro Tanz and Landesbüro freie darstellende Künste.

In 2023 Joy was invited as guest teacher to teach dance to circus students at the CircArtive School.
Joy was chosen for a 14 days research Stipendium together with Lin Verleger at Maschinenhaus Essen.
She also undertook a research called “Ein Spiegel der Gesellschaft -Tanz in der JVA”, gefördert vom Fonds Darstellende Künste aus Mitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien im Rahmen von NEUSTART KULTUR.
Joy performed with the dancecompany MIRA from Cologne in several cities in Germany throughout 2023.
In summer Joy initiated for the fourth time the tanzt.jetzt Festival in Remscheid, This year a co-production with Teo Otto Theater Remscheid as a part of the “Spielraumförderung”. [It was funded by Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft NRW, Kultursekretariat Gütersloh and Bergischer Kulturfonds.]
